Massa Cabernet Sauvignon (Carmel Valley) 2023

Red

“With no new oak, this wine shows Cabernet Sauvignon in its purest form.”

Perched high above the Cachagua region of Carmel Valley at 1,300 feet, these vines sink their roots deep into sandy, loamy soils in search of underground springs that sustain them through the dry season. This historic estate was among the first in the region to embrace organic farming — originally planted by the Durney family in 1968. Today the vineyard practices holistic farming with cover crops, composting, beneficial insect habitats, and careful water conservation.

100% destemmed fruit, natural fermentation in open-top containers, aged 18 months in neutral French oak. Unfined and unfiltered. This wine is designed to evolve beautifully with age — enjoy now or cellar 10 to 15 years to experience it at its peak.

Tasting notes: The aromatics are striking — black pepper, wild herbs, anise, and the faint sweetness of cinnamon. The palate leans restrained and savory, with tart blackberry, ripe plum, and cedar lingering quietly in the background. With no new oak, this wine shows Cabernet Sauvignon in its purest form.

Madson Wines

Cole Thomas founded Madson Wines in the spring of 2018, alongside Ken Swegles and Abbey Chrystal. The wines of Madson are utterly unique – nuanced, subtle, unmistakably Alpine in character, yet influenced by the vineyards’ close proximity to the Pacific Ocean.
